A personal website of our Hiking, Camping and Motorcycling adventures around Georgia. An ancestry section is also included on the left side bar.
Since 1992 I have backpacked and hiked around the Cohutta Wilderness area in north Georgia. Some of the trails there I have hiked many times. This is a rugged area so be prepared if you hike there. The Jacks River trail has many river crossings and I have slipped into the frigid water several times and suffered a few bloody shins from the rocks. The trails in the Cohutta's I've hiked are: Hemp Top, Jacks River, Sugar Cove, Penitentiary Branch, Rough Ridge, Hickory Ridge, Beech Bottom, Rice Camp, East Cowpen, Conasauga River, Chestnut Lead, Panther Creek, and Tearbritches. There are some nice waterfalls on Jacks River and Panther Creek. I also hiked a portion of the Benton MacKaye Section 10 off of Jacks River to Hemp Top. The Benton MacKaye is not widely used and gives a good opportunity to view wildlife if you are quiet. I once watched a black bear digging bugs out of a stump. I never saw another hiker that day.
The website here is a place for us to document our travels and share information. Our goal is to eventually hike and camp at every Georgia State Park.
